It seems like a lot of them were waiting on _ to be implemented before expanding their own scope. Wasn't there a bit of a hiccup with mod versions in the patch Keen threw out as the company bailed? For a while, the state of Medieval Engineers was static without any updates, many mods "finalized" into a polished form and the authors moved onto other games or back to Space Engineers. Yes.if I felt existing code was bad and my modding efforts would require a lot of improvements, I would ABSOLUTLY not mod the game I would instead start a new project.without question.for at least 2 very powerful important reasons This path has been taken by some former members of the community (Ages of Engineering project) - a new game project having nothing to do with Keen whatsoever. On the other hand, the authors of 'clandestine' fixes ARE the modding community, so they will make sure to break as little as possible and help other modders if needed.Īs to redoing the game from scratch, this is essentially making a different game of similar style, possibly with a different (newer) engine. I would say a one good thing of Keen abandoning the game is they will not break anything with the updates. (because we have to convert everything given a lack of support anyway and its almost 15 years old) In fact, right now at work I am in a similar situation where it really appears the amount of work it will take to fix/update/support the code we have we would be better served to just re do the entire app. Reason I ask is because if a lot of work is put into modding the game, the problem is, Keen at any time could make it all go away if they ever do update it. I dont mod but I am a programmer by trade and I wonder if it makes sense to effectively remake a game with similar features intsead. The "clandestine" bugfixes are being published by the former head of the dev team as well as some modders though. Most of the bugs are easily (and in fact have been) fixed but the development team has been dissolved and any updates - terminated. Problem is however that the game has been released in a buggy state. Without the mods the game would be pretty much a castle builder.
